Back to South Carolina
I will be traveling to Columbia, S.C., this weekend to meet with some of the people who were part of In Good Hands. I have seen some of them in recent years, but it has been much longer since i’ve met with some of the others. Most of them had no idea that this book was about to be published.
It’s hard to predict how it’s going to feel. I am, of course, happy that the book is out. And I believe that it offers lessons that readers will find valuable. But it also portrays the worst events in the lives of several of the people I’ll be sitting down with. And they haven’t read it, so they don’t even know how they’re going to feel about a book that can’t help but dredge up so much pain.
